And they are still young. They can be together for a while, even if one of them gets replaced.

For sure. What some people might not know is we have JVR locked up for a pretty low cap hit given the production he has been producing. Its a steal

Even next year, they are only 16.5 mill. Not bad for a #1 line in the NHL.

Kulemin for Niskanen

Toronto needs defense badly and can score plenty goals so they can give up a forward for a top 4 defenseman. Both players are 'rentals' andcould be resigned by both teams at a fair rate.

Maple Leafs aren't going to get a top pairing guy so stop dreaming about Shea Weber because the asking price will be extreme (Top6 forward with term/Top4 defenseman - which they don't have/Level-A prospect/1st rd pick).

Hopefully those numbers keep and so do the wins! Getting into the final stretch now, time keep looking forward. Tampa can certainly be passed

the leafs already have this type of d-man and plenty of them

other than that its a reasonable proposal.

we need guys who are good in their own end.. we already have rielly, gardiner and franson who are all offense first guys

Agree that would be a good trade for both.

Was the bolded necessary?

Firstly, everybody is "dreaming" about Weber. I don't think any sensible person believes that Weber is an option for trade. That being said Toronto can definitely look to improve defense but Niskanen is certainly not the answer. He's more or less an offense first defenseman and Toronto needs to look for a defenseman similar to Gleasons skill set - if they look at a defenseman at all. Kulemin, right now, is more valuable to Toronto than Niskanen.
